  • Studio Upgrade Project Manager (Spring 2006)

    Project managed the upgrade of Studio A at Ravensbourne College, taking the composite infrastructure to SDI and refitting the production gallery to accomadate the new equipment.

    This included the replacement of all previous gallery furniture, monitor stack, vision mixer, character generator, still store and VTR’s in addition to the introduction of under monitor displays and router sourcing for device inputs.

    Produced all technical drawings for the build as well as dealing with supplier negotiations and purchases as well as scheduling the extensive works required within the two week window. Pictures of the finished project can be found by clicking the picture to the right.

  • Various Student Projects (Autumn 2003 » Summer 2006)

    Both as part of my BSc course at Ravensbourne and in my own free time I took part in numerous projects based in the college, around London and abroad, including being head engineer for outside broadcasts from near Westminster and from Germany for the Profile Intermedia 7 conference in Bremen.

    These were done using available college equipment, some of it old and unreliable meaning a lot of problem solving in the field was required using available resources to accomplish the project goals.

  • Ravensbourne Student Union Facilities Manager (April 2004 » December 2005)

    I managed payroll and budget for the team under me as well as equipment operation, repair and installation within the Students Union bar at Ravensbourne college. Projects undertaken in this role have included installation of a 20 channel stage multicore, bar refurbishment and 4 TFT advertising displays.

  • Work experience with The London Studios (2004-5)

    3 weeks working in the VTR department, duties included tape dubs from/to DigiBeta, VHS, D2, BetaSP, DVCAM, DVCPro, 2 machine edits etc, followed by 4 weeks in the Technical Support area doing a wide range of repair work and gaining valuable equipment fault finding experience within the workshop and studios.
  • Free time Engineering work at Ravensbourne College (Autumn 2003 » Summer 2006)

    Although not formal work, I spent large amounts of free time in the engineering workshop at Ravensbourne gaining first hand experience of repairs and installs within a broadcast environment ranging from camera line-up and equipment repair to studio installation.
  • 2 weeks work experience with Avalon Television on The Sketch Show II. Orignally brought in as a production runner I acted as camera assistant for much of the location work (Sept 2002)

I have experience using and working with a wide range of broadcast equipment and software including;

Broadcast Hardware/Software: Pro-bel, Tektronix test equipment and Profile VDR servers, PixelPower, Miranda bug generators and multiviews, Vinten/Radamec Camera Control systems, Trilogy talkback systems, Snell and Wilcox vision mixers,VizRT, Basic operational knowledge of Avid Edit systems, Pharos and Omnibus Columbus based Automation systems.

Other Software: Microsoft Windows OS: NT4.0, 9x series, 2000 and XP. Apple OS9 and X. Linux: Ubuntu Desktop, and Debian server, Microsoft Office and Sun Open Office packages, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, AutoCAD, Apache webserver.

Programming: HTML, XHTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL connectivity, I have dabbled with C++ and VB.NET with examples application being a Windows based control application for a PixelPower Collage and a CCTV application to control various IP based camera’s.
